Ok so I purchased a five month old black Orpington from a local farmer three days ago, she is confident it is a pullet. She had a mottled Americauna Rooster and said she had sold all of th pullets. Today I purchased a black mottled pullet also five months old, figured they could be new B's together. She is half the size of the "Orpington" I just got, and the Orpington has white feathers on her tail and a beard! So please help confirming the breed of Pullet A) and gender of A) and B).
Pullet A) the alleged "Orpington"
Pullet B) mottled Americauna![]()
First bird is a pullet, the second I can't see well enough to say for sure. Looks pullet-ish, but a better pic would help.
Neither bird is an Orpington, and neither is mottled. The first could have some Ameraucana or EE blood, but it doesn't look full blooded to me. The body shape is off for starters. I can't really see what kind of comb she has or the color of her legs under that dark covering (check the bottoms of her feet, that's a great place to see true skin color).
The second bird has more of an Ameraucana look, but again can't see much from the pic provided.
Thank you very much for your help and confirmation of my thoughts!! Haha! What do you think bird A was mixed with? That Americauna rooster she can't get rid of? That was my first assumption.Bird B would easily be a cull from an Ameraucana breeder. It is a pullet![]()
The other bird could have and Orp parent, but it's not pure. Orps don't have beards, period. Her comb looks mixed also, Orpingtons have straight combs. The're also very rounded and fluffy, like walking basketballs. She's a mix, but she's a cute little thing.
