Yesterday we got two barred rock chicks, one rooster and one hen. or at least we were supposed to... one of the chickens (the one thats supposed to be the hen) is golden and black insted of black and white so we found out she was a partridge rock chicken, but the reason i was questioning if she was a hen is because the worker told us they could tell from the spot on their head what they were and i don't t know if that was true for partridge rock chickens also? (i can post pictures if necessary)

it doesnt even work on teh barred variety, ONLY ON BLACK SEX LINKS. THE MALES WILL HAVE THE WHITE SPOT. it drives me crazy when i sell barred rock chicks (which all have the white spot) and some folks will sit there and tell me i have all males.

if you bose it on the white spot on any breed buit teh sex link, YOUR WRONG

so true about the head spots. Being a new chicken owner since may I have learned alot mostly the hard way. Got 6 barred rock chicks from a farm they were a week old. The lady told me all pullets since they had small roundish head spots. Yeah right. 4 maybe 5 roos One is trying to confuse me. It for lack of knowing gender yet, has a large comb and smallish wattles but is still kinda peachy colored instead of red like the others. So... anyone want a roo in Illinois?

thanks everybody, i hope i just get lucky and dont have two roosters
