Dean Koontz's The Darkest Evening of the Year. It's not super new, but it was wonderful.
Now I'm waiting for the new book of his to come out, about his beloved golden retriever Trixie that passed away.

Along the vampire line, you may want to try some of Ann Rice's books. I thought "The Witching Hour " was her best, but have read most of them and they were good reads. I have "Water for Elephants" to read next, glad to hear it was so good. I am almost finished with "Merles Door" and it is a fabulous book, but it raises serious questions about dog issues I see raised on here frequently, it's a good read. Animals in Translation is still about my favoritest book ever, I think that's a must read if you love animals.
 
I just finished "my sisters keeper" . I am still sorting thru my thoughts on the subject.

I have "water for elephants" but haven t started it yet.
 
Are you people who read the Sookie Stackhouse books also watching True Blood? If there are enough people who are, it might be fun to start a thread on the subject....I'm curious what people think.
 
Books by Jane Lindskold, George R.R. Martin, Patricia Briggs, Piers Anthony, Anne McCaffery, and of course the Golden Compass are all excellent books for those who love fantasy.(like myself...ahem

All of Terry Pratchett's books (his series starts with "The Colour of Magic) are HILARIOUS!!! My advice: don't read them in a quiet library, your constant LOLing will attract stares.

If anybody's a fan a manga (I love it!), Fruits Basket, +Anime, and Chibi Vampire are awesome.
 
PERFECT CHEMISTRY one of my favorite books now already read it like 4 times!

Its sorta racist in a couple parts but its still a really good book.
