What got in my coop

Okay, so the raccoon isn't back. Please tell me it's because you fixed your fencing? If not, you seriously need to take this advice and SECURE YOUR CHICKENS. I don't want to sound mean or repetitive, but you haven't answered whether or not you blocked off the coop yet. Please do not endanger your chickens. Simply standing around talking on BYC is not helpful unless you take some initiative and use the advice you are getting to its fullest. I am becoming a little frustrated at your lack of action. I have no idea why the raccoon didn't come back if I don't know what you are doing to prevent it. I don't mean to come across as rude at all, but please, act now before a predator decides to attack your chickens. Do what you have to do. Secure your animals and do what it takes to keep them safe or stop keeping them.

Ok so we fix the fencing put and pepper garlic and put it in each hole I am not endangering our chicken, if we find a problem we fix it and the reason why I've been inactive is im busy doing the chicken coop food all that stuff well, the reason why I think the raccoon is not coming back is the smell of the pepper and garlic and I'm not trying to make our chickens die that's the only pet I have!!!!!

Well I am very glad that you have patched up the fence. I am also glad that you take care of your chickens. Are you thinking of rehoming your roosters? I may be able to help if so. I hope that the raccoon doesn't trouble you again. I'm sorry if I offended you at all, I was just worried about your chickens, but you seem quite responsible in taking care of them solely. To revisit an earlier post- do you have a skirt around the ground surrounding your coop to eliminate the risk of digging under fencing ?
The best and cheapest skirt is used free recycled chain link fencing which can be zip tied to the bottom of your fencing and just laid on the ground .It will sink into the dirt eventually so grass can grow thru it and the lawnmower wont get caught up in the links.
Unless the diggers whatever their species can figure out to start digging many feet away from the fencing, they are stymied and will give up.
With raccoons the secondary danger to breaking in is reaching in thru the fencing and pulling a hen thru the wire.
Make sure you use wire small enough so little coon hands cannot reach your birds.
I got my free fencing at a dump metal collection site but craigslist is a good source for this material.
You may have too take more than you need in order to get what you want - but just pass the reset on to someone else.
That's the good part about freecycling - always someone there to take what you've got as long as it is free.
