What got my chickens **GRAPHIC**

Well I have some more bad news, while I was working I had a raccoon attack my rooster. The rooster stood up to the raccoon until my dad went to go close the coop and chase away the raccoon. I took a look at the rooster because it was still alive and it had a big gouge in its neck and had its head bent down. I could see it was in pain so I put him down. He protected my 5 hens, and did a good job of it. Here is a picture of when he was healthy

I'm sorry you lost your roo. :( He was a nice-looking boy and valiant to the last.

I would still shore up your defenses. Birds do not always go immediately in craigslist. I just lost a quality bred American Dominique while waiting for a buyer on Craigslist. Rooster are harder to sell but raccoon will likely come calling again before a party interesting buying them does. Consider using the rooster carcass to bait a trap.

Keep your chickens closed in your coop until they find another home. It's better to have them cooped up than eaten. I'm sorry for your loss too. :(

Do you know any hunters who could help you with that raccoon? Or try trapping it. Getting rid of your chickens will keep them safe, but it still means you have an aggressive raccoon nearby. You'll have to be careful with any small dogs, cats, or children. Raccoons tend to be nocturnal and should run off if they see a person, even if they're in the midst of attacking a rooster. Be aware of rabies!

I am borrowing a live trap and taking care of it that way. I really want to find a home that can keep them safe
