My hen magpie was laying on a nest of about 10 and the dogs got some and then the other nite a coon got in and ate 3 of her remaining 4, she sat on the one egg for a few days and then stopped, the egg was supposed to hatch yesterday, so today i took the egg out and cracked it and the duck was completely formed, and i want to know if some one has a ancwer i would really like to know. it was her second nest this year, the first nest was unfertile, and like i said the others were eaten. thank you

With the attacks and the stress involved with that...it is no wonder she got off the nest.

Now, just because the duckling was fully formed does not necessarily mean it was viable. Was there any signs of life?

You need to give her a secure, predator proof place to brood. If she is free from predator attack you are more likely to get ducklings.

Toward the end of the hatch cycle a duck or goose can tell if the egg is still alive inside (Most good stockmen can tell too). The last egg died and she left the nest, that is to be expected.
