What happened??!! **Graphic Pics**

@cmom, due to your game camera recommendations on a prior thread, several months ago i did purchase 2 Dimoche brand cameras from amazon. Very happy with pic quality and price, so thanku for recommendations. Sounds like op is also now in the market for a camera, so may appreciate if u can post recommendations on this thread. Otherwise, the choices can be overwhelming, & many cameras have poor reviews.

Yes! For sure! I am going to search for hawk proofing and game cameras in the coop and runs forum.

I don't know about this netting but I'm sure it would work.

This is similar to the netting I originally bought on eBay. I put in a max bid on eBay and won the bid to my surprise. I bought this netting because I ran short and this replaced so crappy netting I had over some of my pens.

Btw @bhawk-23, hey im a master naturalist too! Got certified through texas a&m university several years ago. Let certification lapse due to at the time found chickens even more fascinating than "nature.", & chicken math grabbed hold of me tight and wouldnt let go. 🤣 i tend to get re-certified in future tho. The master naturalist program is awesome!

Coons and skunks start with the heads. Opossums eat their insides only. Any can eat all but typically skunks heads possums belly. A dog proof foot trap baited with dry cat food and marshmellows will do the trick. Every body with chickens should have one or two on hand. Also live traps with cheap canned cat food or the same dry cat food marshmellow mix. Also something any chicken owner should have.
I live in wide open ranch country with LOTS of red tail hawks and they are my least concern. Trapped 3 coons last fall in 2wks by putting regular foot traps at the corners of my chicken tractor. Caught 1 that was still able to make a hole and pull out a hen.
Although they are all normally nocturnal I've seen all of these during the broad day light.

Had another thought. Again a general rule not in stone. If a hawk is a problem you can usually leave them penned up (if you have a decent run) for a couple of weeks and they learn their is no buffet and move on. It may happen more than once a year but it is NOT a buffet they just keep coming back to. If you disturb it while eating or in the middle of the kill it's still hungry.
They also will keep coming back to feed on the same kill. If you pick it up (as you should) they are still hungry, and still looking to eat.
Hope these tips help.
