What Happened??? Please Tell Me!!!

Isolate, give fresh clean water, keep the bird warm.

Get some poly vi sol (childrens vitamin) without iron. Give sparingly on the SIDE of the beak a drop at a time. 10 drops is way enough for an adult Guinea.

Put down 22% or more protein feed (game bird) mixed with medicated starter.

DO NOT give antibiotics at this point.

Feed yogurt once per day.

If she does not eat, try to get the yogurt down. BE CAREFUL, do not force this. You can and will kill your bird if she aspirates any food or liquid. So many on here have had this happen to them.

Wait ONE day. If no improvement, then I would suspect a disease. A white poop is indication of NOT eating and has some signs of a few problems.

Check her crop, it should be empty or very soft at this point.

Guinea birds are strong and usually pull through.

Warmth, isolation, quiet and lots of TLC. Speak very softly when you around her and keep any stimulation to a minimum. Guinea fowl are very high strung.

You can put molasses (a small amount) in her water.

Please let us know if she does worse.

Guinea birds do get CRD, coryza and such.

Guinea fowl if female (you must be sure of this) can have problems with egg laying. This is actually the one problem all birds have that can take them down.

First, I am by no means an expert on poultry illness. But, I would go to the feed store and buy Terramycin Soluble Powder. Follow the directions and give it to her twice a day with an eye dropper. It only takes a small amount.
I've done this several times with chickens and Turkeys. I had a turkey a few weeks ago on the edge of death and she is now happy and healthy. If the Guinea has an infection, this should knock it out and if you stick to the directions, it won't hurt anything.

Well, she's not getting much better.....
one of the other guineas is acting like her... really lethargic and refusing to eat. could it be a disease? sh also has a mucus lik discharge coming from her beak... she refuses to to eat, but the other guinea hogs all the food. her poop is dominantly white. the rest is clear... whats happning to my guineas????

You should try posting this in the Emergencies/Disease/Injuries and Cures section.
I'm sure you will get much more input and probably a lot quicker. Personally, I would start giving them antibiotics.

I would request to the mods to move your post to the emergencies/disease section.

Do not duplicate your post, just request a move.

There are many on this site that have had experiences like yours.

I have never had a Guinea that succumed to a disease that broke them down as much as you decribed and i have had them for 2 years now.

They are a robust, hardy and very strong bird.

NOW, if your birds got soaked in the rain or somthing and they had to spend the night in a cold environment I would suspect that they are experiencing the results of Hypothermia. This can kill them in a day or even take a week.

Please advise if this did indeed happen.

I've had them for about 40 years off and on and I have never seem any succumb that fast either. As the matter of fact, I've never seen them succumb to anything other than natural causes-coyotes, skunks, racoons, 22 rifles ect.. It could be something simple like a lack of grit (especially if they're always penned), wrong type of food (not enough protien) but even a lack of protien shouldn't cause them to deteriorate that quick. It sounds like an infection to me which I would treat with antibiotics-as fast as posssible. Either that, or take them to a vet so they can treat them.

I don't have anything to add as far as care. By God's grace, my guineas have never gotten sick. Injured, yes. Sick, no.

But PLEASE let us know how they are doing. We all can learn from your experience.

Good luck with them. I am praying for you and them.

Well, they're getting A LOT better..... but one had a spasm and died in my arms....
