What Happened To Alice?

Today I went outside and found a lot of Alice's feathers in one small spot. She and her friend were hiding under a tree. She now has a big hole under her butt which an unknown predator is responsible for, and she also lost some feathers. What could have done this?

Maybe she had a brush with a hawk or some other feathered predator, but miraculously escaped?

Yeah she's still alive. I saw a hawk earlier in the day, but it went away. I also wouldn't think that a hawk would go for her butt.

Yeah, that's what had me confused, maybe it grabbed her a different way than they typically do?

To me, it looks like a beak predation, but it's also just a picture, it could look different than the way I'm seeing it.

for sure. Hawks are sneaky too. Probably waiting for you to have left them unattended.

If I had to guess, I would say that it was unable to pick her up. She's pretty big. I hope she recovers, the hole is about as big as a half dollar.
