What happened to the blood veins in the eggs?

We've got about 45 minutes before we need to check on them, did you get all your chores done?

This was my little chore"

She was attacked by a hawk, You see my brilliant husband thought it was a great Idea to have this hawk attack, kill and eat up one of my hens, he thought Perhaps it will get full and stay away for a while. Well his Lovely planned didn't work out so well because it came back for an all you can eat buffay. Sure enough it got her, so i have her in the house with me to watch over her, well needless to say the girls outside are sitting on eggs and hatched out all those babies. FIVE of them, she has so kindly adopted all of them..

The nesting bed I made her, OMG, she sits on it like a PROUD PEACOCK..

My daughter was a late comer...I have sons in their 20's! Being a mom to a girl and being a mom in my early 40's is a ton different than when I was in my early 20's.. I am just TIRED these days. Oh I was going to tell you that we got a new HUGE tote for the babies. Paris Rocky and Pumpkin are loving it in there. I also got a shallow smaller tote and those puddle pads to feed them in. I put the pad in the bottom and their food and water bowl in there so they don't slop up their bed so badly. They still poop more than my dogs do but at least it isn't AS bad...and it is a clear tote so we can see them ..I also got a heating lamp but it doesn't have a heating bulb in it. I thought 250W was a little too hot! Right now they are sleeping at the far end of the tote away from the light and they seem to love it. For the bedding tote I put 2 pads in the bottom and covered the pads with aspen wood chips...

AND ..little pumpkin thinks that Paris is it's Momma...Pumpkin is always under her feet. But I think that Paris and Rocky are going to match up for life. They all sleep in a big pile!
AWEEE sweet, I also use those bed pads for adults, I find them to be a tab bit better only because they are Bigger and can cover more grounds. they cost about the same as the puppy pads..

Yes, Ducks surely do have that GREAT FINE aroma. AHHHHHHH..

That is terrifying! I had a hawk attack my mallard a few years ago...I beat that thing off with a metal rake and it just stared at me.. on it's tippy toes and stretched those feathers as far as they could go..and every feather on it's entire body stood straight up on end. VERY long story short.. I just ended up startling the thing and when animal control came to take it away I was advised to LET THE HAWK HAVE THE DUCK...he showed me it's talons and that gave me a chill! I know I beat on that hawk with a rake for 10 minutes or more and he just wasn't leaving without my duck. Mally survived the attack but they never went for a swim ever again unless I sat out there and watched. Then one night an OWL came to the duck buffet and I couldn't handle it anymore. I donated my 3 ducks to a petting zoo. I was living in a suburban neighborhood and had no way of providing them much safety without keeping them penned up. We bought a house with a few acres and now we have room to do what we want and don't have to have permission from some HOA either. Back then we had a Mallard and a white Indian Runner named MingMing and we had taken in a rescue.. it was a male pekin and came to us named Waldo.. We also had 2 ducklings die because of stray cats and our neighbor's dog dug under our fence and got one. It was way too much heartbreak for me at the time. I always hope they are still alive and being treated well. I don't remember who I gave them to or I would go see them.
Anyway.. your little girl looks like she is doing pretty good after meeting up with a hawk and she looks like she is pretty happy with her bed! What kind of chicken is that?

She's a Bantam Cochin, Oh I have another great story about the Same hawk, he decided to help himself with one of my Ducks and I raise call ducks they don't weight more then 2 pounds. Anyway he got my duck TRIED to fly off with him, Well my call duck did the MOST amazing thing, he Opened his wings, YES, MY CALL and THIS HAWK have there wings opened and are both trying to fly. So While this hawk is flying with my call who is also flying, my call decides to take HIM down and he did RIGHT INTO THE POND. AHAHHAHA talk about a very ANGRY hawk, he released my call, flew up to the top of the coop with his wings out dripping water. he was NOT a happy camper. LOL,

My call SLAM DUNKED HIM.. lol

FINALLY well better LATE then NEVER. LOL I figured he would need more time, Hows our cup Twins??

They are the weakest of what I have hatched so far. They are sleeping but once in a while they let a little peep out..I think it is only Smiles that is peeping.. They are both still breathing though so that is good news.. OH and Trouble went back to sleep..LUCKY DUCK! LOL..

Wow! It is scary when everything else wants to eat our babies! That was a pretty heroic moved on the part of the Call Duck..

Oh I gotta tell you that those Muscovy males are trying to "hook up" with Hussy...my Pekin Mama...Afflack isn't very happy with them. And there were a few times today that Hussy started following the Muscovy's and left Afflack standing in the yard alone...

One thing...is it going to hurt these ducklings if they hop out of the coffee mugs?

No it won't hurt them but I would like for you to check on them and will need to change there paper towels. Put a fresh batch in there. But shine a light to see inside that bottom shell, I'm wondering if there's still more gooy stuff that needs to come out.. Try to peal back some shell so you can see in there, you shouldn't need to peal a whole lot..

Does Afflack want Hussy all to himself is that why he's not happy, he wants her to have all of his love juices and no one else can have her? LOL

Need to also check for bleeding and try to get a good look at the belly button, verify if it's yolk or just swelled up. If just swelled up, they will do better laying down on the bottom of the bator..
