What happens if a chicken eats a bee? spider?

Our 3-week old chicks caught on to bugs pretty fast. Anything larger than a small ant or beetle gets torn apart beyond recognition before it's eaten, so I'm guessing the risk of receiving a bite or sting during dinner is very small.

Thanks! I'm glad that I don't have to worry about them getting into dangerous insects and spiders.

So, they will even be go unharmed if they eat a black widow spider? I know we have those around our yard...

How funny! I was wondering the same thing. I had my 8 week old chick-a-Roo hanging with me in the yard outside yesterday (outside is a big, new thing for him, the chicks are still in our basement, we finally got the first coat of paint on the new coop today!) and my bf goes "Oh wow, he just caught a bee!" Apparently he snatched it right out of the air, and was tearing it apart. I freaked out, thinking he would get stung or something, but my bf said "he's a chicken, he'll be fine". And I thought about it, and figured that they do somehow manage to eat sand, gravel and grit, so I suppose the stinger isn't likely to cause a problem. I let him have it, and wow, he sure did enjoy that bee!

my girls have become adept at snatching small moths out of the air. and what they will do to catch a butterfly is hillarious

bees not so much.

Chickens definitely eat bees - which is why they are on the other side of the yard from the beehives! They love spiders too - even the big, creepy, pale ones with red legs that run fast. Yikes! Maybe I should keep a chicken in the bathroom to deal with all the spiders that get in the bathtub.
