What hatchery did you use?

Cackle Hatchery

April 2007

B.O., BRs, Buff Cochins, Red Star

All arrived very healthy. One of the cochins turned out to be a roo and one was failure to thrive as a chick. The roo grew to be huge, beautiful and healthy. All the other birds are great hens and very healthy. I would use them again but not sure if I would order Silkies from them just because I want someone to recommend the best place to order white Silkie chicks.

I have only ordered from hatcheries twice....1st was Murray McMurray....got 25 pullets (RIR, buff orp, barred rocks) and 2 of each cockerals for a total of 31. I lost 1 RIR cockeral at about 5 weeks for some reason not known. I was pleased with the chicks for what I wanted at that time. 2nd was Ideal........and I know they are on here but, I ordered leghorns in white and buff.......in 2 weeks I had less than half of the original 25 left! I finally sold the rest at about 8 weeks. Going to try Cackle and Sand Hill this spring.

Hatchery/Farm: Welp's Hatchery in Iowa
Date chicks received: July of 2007
What you ordered: 10 Light Brahma's, 10 Ameracauna's (EE) 10 white Rocks and 10 Golden Spangled Hamburgs.
Positive Feedback: All chicks arrived bright eyed and noisy. Free Shipping!
Negative Feedback: This is not really negative, but...for my order that I just put in, I ordered 38 chicks, some of them Polish cresteds. Apparently they hatch seperately from the other breeds I ordered, so if I wanted any Polish (which I did; was really excited about them) I would have to do a minimum order of just them-25. I did...lol!
Other info: I love my chickens from Welp's. I can't say whether they are show quality or not, but I haven't gotten into that aspect of chicken keeping yet. I like the fact that they are close to me, and the correspondence I have had, has gone well.
Will you order from them again? Yes. I was going to try Murray McMurray this year, just to try someone different, but I started thinking, "Why change, when I have had a good experience..?" Now if I were to have a bad experience..then I would try MM
