What have I done

Normally, mom will leave the nest when she feels that she's given the other eggs long enough time to hatch.

How safe is the area around her? Is it fenced? Does predators have access? Baby chicks can easily be taken by predator birds while they're young. A bird net over the area she's in will be a good precaution. Hanging strings and ropes are better than nothing.

The area is not safe , they are in a walled garden ,it’s in the open above hence I wanted to move them into a covered pen and run nearer to the pond to give them safe access to water just very worried now and dreading letting them out this morning

I'd risk moving them. It would be heart breaking for the babies to be killed the moment they're let out. Have mom gone off the nest yet?

Oh forgot to say, congrats! Please post pictures if you have, mandarin ducks are stunning!

Farmer friend of mine has given me a roll of stack netting so should be able to completely enclose latter on when I get help here , mom still on nest , I’ve shut back into there pen until I can secure walled garden , I’ll post picks later ,
