What have I got?

I just got my first hatching.

There are 5 chicks. They're all from the same French Black Copper Marans rooster. He must have some strong genetic material because they're all as identical as they could be despite coming from different hens and they all look like BCM chicks -- except that a couple look like they'll have grey legs.

One is definitely from my Cream Legbar because it hatched from a blue egg. Two are from my Orpingtons -- one of which is Blue and the other of which is Lavender. They could be from either or both of them. The other two are a little less definite. One could be from my GL Wyandotte. And the last, I'm simply not sure.

I still have a Cream Legbar egg and another brown one that haven't pipped yet and may never.

I don't know anything about chicken genetics. So if anyone could guess what they might eventually resemble or what they should be called I'd appreciate the info.

Any CL crosses are to be called Olive Eggers.
The rest, simply barnyard mix. Pictures of the chicks would help. Coloring is hard to predict.

Oops! Thought I had included the pix.

As I said, they all look like BCM chicks. Only some of the legs show the grey of Orpingtons. Most are the BCM gold. No signs of feathering, of course, but then my BCM roo has very little himself.

You'll have to wait until they feather out. The black of the BCM is dominant.

Since Lavender is recessive and requires 2 genes to express the chick will be black. The chick from the Blue Orpington will be blue or black. The ones from the Legbar will be crested and east to identify once they start to feather in. The chick from the Golden Laced Wyandotte should have a rose comb if the mother has one and is homozygous for the rose comb.
