What have you been reading?

I’ve been reading a long way from Chicago for a class and one of the questions on the study guide was to explain the mental image the phrase “Grandma sailed like a galleon into the front room striking us dumb.” The context is that the grandkids are shocked by how well put together their grandmother looks. And a Galleon is an old fashioned sailing ship. Unfortunately all my brain is picturing is the gold coin that is from Harry Potter and also called a galleon. With arms and legs like the helpers off Mickey Mouse wearing grandmas straw hat and white heeled shoes. :lau:lau:lau

Oh, the visual I have of Grandma...

This reminds me of something that happened at work several years ago. A coworker asked me, "Would it be ok if I snuck out of here at 4:00?"

I told her, "Absolutely not! I want you to walk out of here with your head held high, and your shoulders back! I want you to STRUT out of here at 4:00!"

So I see Grandma, a large lady, dressed in something that ebbed and flowed around her, head held high, shoulders back, completely in command of whatever the situation might have been.

Started this week:

A Long Way from Chicago by Richard Peck

Bog Child by Siobhan Dowd

The Iliad by Homer

Finished this week:

A Study in Scarlet by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
(Sherlock Holmes and nice fun read as usual)

The Scourge by Jennifer A. Nielsen (Not bad definitely more of a kids book than I expected I did notice a plot hole though)

Out of the Dust by Karen Hesse
( it was a good book the different format made it interesting)

A Year Down Yonder by Richard Peck. (This one was funny)

Between Shades of Grey by Ruta Sepetys ( This one was somewhat difficult to read. It introduced me to a side of WW2 that I haven’t really heard or thought about. Im embarrassed to admit actually didn’t even know that Lithuania and Estonia were actual countries until last year.)

Here's something I don't like about my kindle. Ask me the title of the book I'm reading, or its author and I. Don't. Know!

It's not right there, on the cover, seen every time I pick it up to read. So I'm going to go get the dang thing, turn it on, and find out.

A Comedian Walks into a Funeral Home, by Dennis Kelly
