What have you been reading?

I've been reading the Frank Quinn series by John Lutz. It's a police procedural series. I don't know why I kept reading them... a lot of "sameness" to them all. Until I got to this one, which is the last one. Yup, I'm on #10.
@Sally PB Just read the first of this series, was pretty darn good....as compelling as it was, not sure I want to read 9 more tho.

“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other way—in short, the period was so far like the present period, that some of its noisiest authorities insisted on its being recieved, for good or for evil, in the superlative degree of comparison only” (Dickens 1).

This is the starting paragraph of A Tale of Two Cities verbatim. Tell me that ain’t beautiful😭🫶

A tale of two cities should be on every school's reading list. The thing that strikes me is how very very apt a description it is for the times in which we live today.

Next book now is another easy read, Jade legacy, the third and last of Fonda Lee's jade trilogy. I keep postponing reading it because it seems I have a curse with fantasy trilogy- whenever I really like the first two books, the last one is always disappointing.
I found her writing rather plain but the story line and development, the characters and the setting really make up for it in the first two books.
I finished Jade legacy and it wasn't a let down. The trilogy really develops new dimensions to the story. It was a bit long maybe.

Now I've picked up again "Harlem Shuffle" by Colson Whitehead, which I let down after reading about 50 pages. I really liked "Underground railroad" so I wanted to read another of his books, but I'm kind of struggling with this one.

Now I really want to read it. It is indeed a fascinating opening.
