I found what looks like a raspberry growing in my yard and noticed some sort of minty plant when I was picking weeds for my rabbits! I successfully identified it as spearmint =)

I'm pretty excited, especially since I have a brown thumb!

Have you found or discovered anything in your yard?

I have also found raspberries in my yard. looking back its not too surprising because a neighbor had raspberries, but they were all cut down 7+ years ago. I guess some survived to spread.

@Y N dottes I actually just bought two raspberry bushes to plant and found a little raspberry growing under my porch, I don't even see a bush though its the strangest thing!

We live on a very wooded property. Our driveway ends in a loop at our house. Inside the loop is a wooded natural area. We were clearing out a part of that to plant some of our garden in. As we were clearing the land and tilling up the ground we found some small red potatoes growing. Now we know what a potato plant looks like. We have since identified several more of them.

I once had yellow raspberries growing at the edge of my garden. I yanked them out because they were invading the garden, and they were infested with cane girdlers, and i didn't want to mess around with spraying them to get rid of the girdlers. Long story short, several years later, i found a lone raspberry growing in a bed of astilbes behind my house. A year of neglect resulted in the beginning of a patch of yellow raspberries that thus far has evaded insect infestation.

There's lots of edible things growing around in our field, when you can identify them-lambsquarters, yarrow, chamomile, dandelions. My favorite is this plant that tastes a little like broccoli, asparagus, and spinach. There seems to be so much more flavour to it than the store bought veggies. I like to boil them and make the broth into ramen soup, and eat the leaves with some salt. I don't know what it is exactly, but me and my brother have been eating it for years now, so I'm pretty sure it's safe lol
