Hmm that's the dose the label and my vet recommend for dogs 1/10 of a cc but it's technically per 11 lbs - in a 100 lbs dog that makes a bit of a difference...
The lower dose you're giving is just about what they recommend for lice and demodex... perhaps he got confused.
We use Ivomec because Heartguard for 6-10 dogs would bankrupt us, depending on the rescues we have here.
We use the goat's Zonk spray on the dogs, my vet said it's safe and it works pretty well for ticks and biting insects too. I love dual purpose stuff.
I have had a few dogs react badly to the good topicals like Frontline and Advantage. Some dogs have reacted to one or the other but never both - seems to be an individual thing.
Our vets don't use the breed dangerous anesthetics at all any more just to be safe but a certain percentage of dogs will do poorly even on the high end anesthetics - just like some people don't do well on anesthetics at all ever. And some small percentage do have lethal reactions regardless.
And remember the motto - Hartzkillzdogz... and cats for that matter.
I got erlichia last year nice neat bullseye rash and all, and had two dogs with richetsial diseases, one erlichia the other babeosia (oh poo spelling?) Both rescues.
We almost lost one on the surgery table. Since those disease can cause excessive hemorrage. Surprise - dang. Close call but my Doc is a great Doc. A mile of sutures and lots of laser work and she made it. Glad I didn't take her for spay to the low cost clinic, their anesthesia coupled with the bleeding would have killed her. So now we test carefully for lymes etc, before we spay...
