what i learned today while working on the chicken house....(pic added)

I learned that I love imperfection!

What is the point in a perfect poopy chicken coop anyway?

1) I learned...NEVER toss a cigarette down on the straw floor covering..!

2) I learned... that I didn't want to work on it today, It's functionally done. Just doing the usually senseless adjustments that come to mind.

3) I learned...I was just kidding in number 1

You know the saying, "build it and they will come". Doesn't work at my house. I had to go and get a new roo before dh would even think about working on a new breeder pen for the roo and his girls.

I would do it cept I don't know where all the tools are. DH is very unorganised in his shop and I have no idea how he finds anything in that pigstye.

As a young man I was a professional carpenter and one of my bosses had a saying that many amateurs/newbies might enjoy. "Putty and paint makes a carpenter what he/she ain't" Hope this gives you a chuckle. It's a nice thing to remember when you have to pull out a nail or drill a hole in the wrong place. It also reminds one to really respect a finish carpenter who is working on a project that will be stained because putty shows through stain but not paint.

well, i finished? it the other day.. i had a few more idea, but i think i'm done.. rather than spending more time and materials on this one i'm going to work on something to get the big girls out of the weather... lol....

i might try to straighten out the uneven boards in the spring though.. and maybe paint it.. lol...
i ended up with more ventilation than i expected becasue of the way i did the roof... but that's a good thing.. if it had set down flat the only ventilation would have been the door.. lol...
it's vegas, it really doesn't get that cold here, i think they'll be fine with this ventilation and all... and the little ones have isabella in there to keep them warm.. cracks me up to watch her go through the door... she barely fits, but she was the first one to go into it on her own...

yeah.. lol.. that's why i put the ? after finished... rofl...
it's functional.. noone said it had to be pretty.. we'll work on pretty when it's not so cold.. lol...

considering i had no plan other than dimensions of the pallet it's sitting on to start, and all the wood was scrap wood from around the property and the illegal dumping in the desert to the one side of us.. lol...
ooh i did buy 2 1x4's and some nails... this coop cost me $5 lol
