What if I can't see the chicks?

I know almost everyone on here uses a newer incubator, or homemade one with glass, but I am using one borrowed from my neighbor. It is a Borwer from 1980, but it works like a dream so far. Super-crazy steady with temps, etc, but the thing is a TANK and there is only one VERY small "window" on top. Once I get to lockdown, what should I do?

Cross my fingers and just open the lid 3 days later, or what?
