Hi all,

I have a Brisnea 20 that has the cradle that rocks the eggs. This is my first time doing a hatch, I have had chickens for 6 years.

) Anyway I have had them on their sides the whole time, we candled and we had 5 out of 20 not go, well the Marans I cant tell, but I have chicks in the rest. The more I read I should have had them on their ends!! Am I doomed, I go into lock down tomorrow evening. HELP!!!!! I have 14 eggs in there now and they were shipped.

Thanks Tracy In snowing Wisconsin

The rocking motion turns the eggs for you, right? If that is so, then you should be fine

There are always a couple that die, and alot die when the eggs are shipped! But you should still have some babies!

You will most likely be fine! How many hens have you seen that make sure the eggs are always the perfect direction?

I wouldn't say you are doomed. It is best for them to be in the turner fat end up the first 18 days and it is recommended for the to be that way, but time will only tell with your eggs now. They could end up being okay in the end.

No, no - you should be just fine. In the Brinsea instructions (have this unit, too), it indicates you can incubate equally as effectively on their sides or fat end up. BEST of luck on your hatch!

Since you are so close to the end it's pointless to worry. Your only going to take them from the turner anyhow. You might as well see this through.
For your next hatch you should read up on using your incubator and incubation techniques.

Wow you guys are fast!! I borrowed this incubator from a friend so I just winged it and wasnt sure how to put them in. I did find a handbook online but it really didnt say much. I have different sized eggs so........but I guess I will wait and see. I kinda thought the same as the hen doesnt have her eggs up:)) so Im hoping for the best. Candling tonight for the last time and Im slowly upping my humidity. Thanks everyone, Im doing some Buff Orph next, will know for next time.

Tracy
