What in the heck is this?

My son found a dead chicken in the coop a couple of days ago. The bumps that you see where the feathers should have been were the size of peas. Can you tell me if this looks familiar to any of you? We don't use antibiotics in our coop and we're really hoping this isn't anything contagious, as his egg customers really like that he doesn't use antibiotics.
