Well, here's the follow-up...months later. All I have left alive is the one Violet Guinea hen and several keets that I managed to hatch out. The keets are all half Jumbo/French but they have the violet coloring from their mother. I finally found the ideal lighting to really show how beautiful the violet guineas can be. My chicken run has a shade cloth over it and the resulting light is just perfect to make the color of the violet guinea stand out. In full sun she's rather grey and in full shade she's rather grey...but under the shade cloth her colors are fantastic! I took the photos with my cell phone and she wouldn't stop long enough to get a really good clear photo but you can get an idea of what her color can look like. In the photos she looks more blue than purple but in real life the color is more purple.
