what in the world is this.

Hey, everyone, so one of my hens just hatched 8 chicks last week Saturday. One of them (the smallest one) seems a bit inactive tho....made an aloe Vera concoction for them just in case (aloe Vera tends to work for many things) ....but it has only slightly improved. I checked it today and saw this.... What could be wrong? What could be done to make it feel better?

It looks as if it may have an umbilical infection. If so it will most likely die. Sorry - hope that I am wrong.

That appears to be a yolk sac infection (Omphalitis). It occurs most often when the chicks hatch prematurely and the navel area is still exposed, and bacteria from the surrounding environment invade the area. Since yolk is prime bacterial growth material the infection often flourishes. This is so far gone I would suggest euthanasia personally, however much I hate to say it. How is the chick acting?

It was very inactive at the beginning... But it is engaging with it's friends more often now
