i was going to try and hatch some chicks this spring and i have always wanted a good broody. so what breeds do you guys ( the experts ) think makes the best broody?

My BO is a great girl, fantastic mom - I have two hens, and one went broody and hatched out twice this summer - she's STILL taking care of the last lot (guinea's) and they're going on 8 or 9 weeks old. (the other BO went broody and hatched out one set of babies)

Game hens are excellent broodies. They sit, hatch and defend it with their life once it hatches... I have one who hatches 3 broods a year. I've never had one try to starve or dehydrate themselves while broody either, their instincts are as in tact as you can get in a chicken.

My OEGB bantys are great mothers. I can't let them gather more than 2 eggs together, or by the end of the day someone's decided to set. And she gets grumpy about it. They do make wonderful mothers, I just don't put more than 2-3 standard sized eggs under them because they are so small.

I have heard that and I have also heard that the roosters (American Game specifically) are very protective fathers and will at times take on the role of mother.
