Well, here's my two cents! Definitely Rhode Island Reds, Easter Eggers because there's nothing quite as cool as getting green eggs, and sex links because they're friendly too. I love my RIRs!

I'm relatively new at this stuff too - I started with barred-rocks and Rhode Island reds. They all survived and lay like crazy! And they love people!

My barred rock is one of the coolest animals I've ever been around. She's got the funniest personality and as curious as a cat. Just don't tell my Wyandottes they're second string. I'd never hear the end of it. Hope you enjoy you girls as much as we have.

I started out with Barred Rocks and Black Sexlinks....they are very friendly. They all come running when I enter the coop and most of them will hop up on the roost or next box to be pet. They are also great with my 3yr old son, as we have handled them since we got them as day-olds from Welp.

Australorps, then the Rocks. Both are calm, friendly, and good layers. And the black Aussies in a flock with barred black and white bars is be-you-t-iful!! .......stan
