What does it mean when it says it is good for gamers? What games? On the internet or on discs or what? I don't understand what that means.
What is RAM? Is that what makes it faster? How much RAM should I have?
What is hard drive for? Bigger is better? ?????
What is a mother board?
Honest.... I am clueless on these dang computers....
One thing I do know.... I do NOT want another laptop. I hate those things. I need to replace my desk top model.
Gamers need extremely rapid response for high graphics. And they also play online in teams, so they need fast connections and little lag time between moves. Don't worry about getting something specifically touted as good for gamers.
RAM is "Random Access Memory" and it's part of what makes a computer faster, because that's short term storage for when the computer is actually on and running. RAM storage allows larger programs to run from a duplicate copy (sort of) kept in the RAM while you're using it, instead of having to go pull features or memory from the hard drive or disc storage. You want a lot of RAM.
The Hard Drive is where everything is saved, and bigger IS better. It's saved there so you can access it when you turn on the computer; RAM is cleared when you turn off the computer.
A mother board is the physical board on which all the little memory chips and lights and whistles are attached.
I have been really surprised at the Hard Drive and RAM size of computers you can now buy at WalMart! Great prices, too! You can get a pretty darned good computer with plenty of memory size to do what you want to do, Kathy.. I prefer HP to Dell, but I have had two Dell computers prior to this HP. I bought THIS computer off QVC!!
