What % is a good hatch rate?

Okay, I was just curious. I bought eggs on ebay and I bought 7 ameraucanas and 7 slw from one person and I got veins on 2/7 slw and 6/7 ameracaunas. I think the SLW roos aren't doing their job. lol

Yeah either that or they didnt survive the "trip"---I am just happy to hatch anything that comes through the mail,,,,because I cant get it around here,,,,,and the quality is much better also

All 14 eggs came in the same package, and the percentage was so much higher on the ameraucaunas. That's why I thought that maybe the others weren't fertilized.

Have you cracked open the eggs that didn't hatch? If there is no development then they were never fertile to begin with. If there is development, then depending on where the chick stopped developing can be a clue to the problem.

Are they all still in the incubator? I try not to throw away any till week 2 at 14 days

It's good hearing your experiences. I'm picking up the eggs myself so I don't have to worry about the mail system and I can keep them warm on the drive home. The incubator holds 3 but I can fit 5 in if I try hard. Hopefully this gets me a female!!

anything over 0 is good imho--- but 0 tells you something too.it tells you you need to do something different.I don't count infertile eggs against me- they can't hatch no matter what. but I am not big on keeping score. There is no contest , no hatch-off with a trophy. it is a learning process.I try to learn-or relearn - something everyday
