What is a good heat tolerant breed for south TX?

i've heard java are good for heat. they're hard to come by. if i get the chance, i'm going to get a couple. they're an old heritage breed i believe.
i have buff orp, black aust, barred rock, silver laced wyandotte, one delaware, & a couple of production reds. so far they're all doing ok. today has been a beast. it didn't cool down much last night at all. this will be my first summer w/chickens. i live in n.c. Texas near fort worth.
i have fans going in the coop & a little mister outside & they have alot of shade.
i've just started feeding them fermented feed (there's a long thread about this in the meat forum). i'm hoping this will help get them through the awful heat.

Living in south Texas i need a good heat breed, but still able to take the cold... any sugestions?

Rhode Island Reds and Black Australorps are cold and heat tolerant, and they are both high egg producers. They will lay about 5 eggs a week on average in a year.

If you want white eggs, or if you do not care about egg color, Leghorns and most of the other Mediterranean breeds are heat tolerant. Leghorns will lay about 6 eggs a week on average in a year. And these breeds can easily handle South Texas winters.

Just keep water and shade available for your chickens of these breeds and they will be fine through the summer.

ok, thank you. my chickens are a free range on our property, with lots of shade, i have (i think) 6 RIR, 2 BR, and one guiney, and just wanted to add some more to my little flock and wanted to know about the different breeds

thank you for all the help!

You probably could buy a few pullets pretty cheaply. You might look on Craigslist.

If you allow your chickens to free-range, I suggest the Brown Leghorn varieties, because the coloring is better for avoiding predators.
