what is a good hen to buy?

    i built a coop out of my old barn here is some pics

    do you all think i need to add more nest boxes for 15 chickens?

    I think the # of nest boxes you have is just fine. The ideal is 1 nest box for every 10 hens. (i think)

    Usually they all lay in just one or two anyway.

    What's your roost look like?

    The roost is usually a flat piece of wood that the chickens stand on for the night.

    It's placed as high up as is practical in the coop.

    Most people use a 2 x 4, flat side up so their feet are toasty under the feathers in winter.

    I think orpingtons are great starter birds...It's what i was told to get and I loved mine until they were all recently killed by the neighbors dog [​IMG] Good luck!

    well i am going to have to build that soon i only have 4 chickens right now i jut got them a couple of days ago got them for free! 3 roosters an one hen

    You may want to get a lot more hens for three roosters. That poor hen will be wore out [​IMG] Or get rid of two of the roos. The normal per rooster is 10 hens to one roo. That's cool that you got them free! [​IMG]
