What is a good movie for pet chickens to watch on a windy/rainy day?

Love Chicken Run... It's been my favorite for a year now. I could never get enough of that movie!!! It cracks me up!

Since this is a semi serious request I will submit a more or less serious response. I have no issue with where something like this might be posted nor do I have an issue with someone that has a question about what movie a chicken would like to watch.

I would like however to caution all of us with respect to the anthropohormism of our animals. I am not sure that is the correct spelling but it has to do with veiwing pets as humans. It is clear that it can be done without significant damage to the pets if not taken too far. However I do get worried when we beleive that the happiness of a pet or a bird is furthered by treating it as though they are human.

Talk to any animal trainer/teacher of worth (Cesar Milan) and they will for the most part go on and on about the damage and stress that we can inflict by not allowing for the animal to be an animal. Dogs are incrediblly damaged by not honored their species. I have seen this with my own eyes.

Additionally it furthers the notion (in some cases) that these animals must get the same consideration when they are ill, injured, or destined for the dinner plate as a human would be given. This (not to get too serious) is a dangerous path and one that many communities have already headed down.

There are communities here in Colorado (Boulder) that have more than one ordinance on the books that does not consider a pet as something you own but as something you take care of. I am not sure that any of that ordinance is enforcable but the concept is there. If that mindset continues we will not be eating our roosters and culls and it will quickly mark the demise of small breeder operations.

I think this is why some of us that still view poultry as livestock, hobby or general interest get a little cynical when the question of how to treat a chicken like a human comes up.

OK I am finished and only expressing an opinion and wishing to be non judgemental

I'm sorry if I offended anyone. That was not my intent. It was also not a joke. People that live in urban areas like me do treat our chickens like pets. I consider my chickens at the same level as a dog or cat.

I am not offended and not trying to stir the pot. I am suggesting (hopefully politely) that treating pets as humans is not good for the pet either.

It is my opinion that pets are most content when we honor their existence in this order:
Animal
Specie
Breed
individual
and finally pet and companion

I have seen so many cases that this is reversed and it creates so many issues with the pet. Issues such as aggression disorder, separation disorder, fear, barking and the list goes on and on.

Freinds of mine had a Lab and have never learned to honor this in the dog they took on and the dog did thousands of dollars in damage to the home and ultimately needed to destroyed due to it not being balanced and they not allowing the balance to be taught. Or more accurately no learning how to balance themselves and their human pet interaction.

They humanized this dog all the way up to the death penalty

That's not humanizing the dog just neglect. Actually bringing them inside and including them in the family - sort of speak- prevents them from being destructive and having bad behavior. Dogs are pack animals. Keeping them away from the family and anything else causes them to become aggressive. Our nextdoor neighbor is the worst about this. They have had too many animals die on them or put down.

My 3 hens don't have the run of the house. They only come in at night or really bad weather. We treat our animals with respect. Never had problems with dogs attacking people or chickens going crazy and attacking each other. Our chickens are very social. We can take them to the vet and petstore with no problems. They even sit on my lap in the car without freaking out.

I think this does fit under managing your flock. I consider you fortunate to have these 3 great chickens. Sounds like you take excellant care of them and I have enjoyed reading about them. Tell us more, please.
Some of my chickens appear more intelligent then others. So I fully understand your chickens comming inside. I wish I had one that would do that !
Please tell us more about your three ................

I was reading through some of these posts quite fast. At first, I didn't realize that you some were quoting Cesar Millian. This is disturbing. He is just a dog trainer not an animal behavioralist. He has no scientific training what so ever. The VMA and many other veterinary associations have spoken against his techniques. They are harmful to animals.

For advice on how to rear my pets, I refer to my fully qualified veterinarian.

As for anthropromorphism, it is actually an anthropological term that refers to deifying animals. In most instances, it is used to describe humans that believe they can take on animal characteristics.
