Crowing
We had pekins last year and the hubs built them two little dog houses which we had surround by a secure pen. They did very well in there, but we didnt have them more than 5 months. Hubs wanted to try them for meat. NEVER AGAIN!!! I'm not sure if we did something wrong or what, but that pekin meat was NASTY!!
Had some muscovy last night that was amazing though.
Back to the point, the houses my hubby made were about 4ft deep, 2.5ft wide, and 3ft high. We put the roof on a hinge, and had a 2 inch gap under the roof along the hinged side for ventilation. It is the perfect size to fit a snow shovel in and scrape the length of it, scooping poop and bedding out with ease. The front is enclosed with a 1.5 ft tall archway cut into it. He was going to reattach the arch cut out with hinges to make a door that folded down to the ground and transformed into a ramp for them, but it got lost some how.
ETA: Cost us about 50 bucks in materials, along with recycling some scraps from other projects in the garage.
It has been repurposed into a grow out/look no touch pen for my younger birds and works great.
