What is a good type of bedding?

I have heard of people using straw and pine shavings, but I have also heard to never use coder shavings. What type of bedding is best for chicks and what type is best for when they grow up?

Hi and from Ohio. So glad you joined. I use shavings for both chicks and adults. It is much easier to clean than straw.

I'd recommend using Aspen Shavings.
They should be the same price and size of the pine shavings BUT are less of a respiratory irritant than pine shavings.

Most chicken diseases are respiratory illness.

Pine shaving are fine for bedding, but if you use it for their entire life may have issues, most peeps just use pine or aspen shavings for brooding and other stuff like hay in their coops.

And your right do NOT use cedar shavings for chickens.

I use pine shavings regularly. Cedar has aromatic oils that will irritate the respiratory tract.

I agree with most. Shavings are good, but avoid cedar.
