I am wanting to add a BCM roo to my girls and I have been talking with someone who has one they don't want because ithas a " 1 side sprig on his comb. It may be 2, it's hard to get a good look at him close up from both sides". What does a sprig mean and would you use him to start out with and try to improve from his off spring? I am not wanting him to show but will all his chicks have a sprig or 50/50 or maybe none?

A sprig is like a little extra piece of comb that sticks off the regular comb. Reminds me of a little horn. I don't know if chicks would have one or not, they can be cliped off from what I understand.

For purposes of showing it's a disqualification. If it is cut off it leaves a visible scar & it could result in your entire entry being disqualified. It's called faking & it's not taken lightly.
It is genetic & would be passed to offspring as either another sprig or an inheritable trait. People who breed seriously don't keep them to breed from.

Thank you for all the info. I will just keep looking. I lost my roo here is one of the 2 hens I have I don't think I need to bring in a bad trait. I want to be able to sell the eggs and build a flock for me. At times there are sooooo many roos being given away and of course when i need one no one has them!!!
