Doing a search on BYC is all you have to do. Black Oil Sunflower Seed. You can get them almost anywhere that sells wild bird seed, including the places you mentioned. Buying it in bulk at the feed store if the smartest thing to do.

What is the shell the out side of the sun flower seed?

The black outside is the shell ~ it looks like this...

Just throw them a handful or two ~ they love it and it is good for them.
