what is coccidia and how do they get it?

I have a two year old Cochin Hen who I thought had worms. I have had her quarenteened for over a month and thougth she was getting better. She is still very skinny and weak but seemed to be more alert and was finally able to perch. I noticed a darker, watery stool under her cage. This may be blood? Seems like everything from some seeds to dehydrated worms are passing through her undigested!

I tried a dose of antibotic but now I noticed a milky discharge from her mouth that is very sour smelling. I tried to give her yogurt, but she refuses. I am on the way to pick up some Corid to treat for Cocciadia. Any suggestions? She is such a pretty girl, but so weak and thin

Just got back from the feed store with a packet of Corid. I'll do the 1 tsp of powder to 1 gallon of water for 5 days (I believe this is the right course of action). After the 5 days is there anything else I should do? Do we just resume life as normal and assume they're better? I HATE being uneducated about important things like this :( I'm reading like a madwoman so hopefully I'm doing it right. Thanks so much for your help Featherz.

Ooooh - forgot to add. Do they keep drinking the same water for a week? (We're in FL and it is hot, wet and humid here). Or do I dump out the Clorid/water combo and refill the waterer each day???

I think it's 1/2 tsp per gallon, but pretty sure corid has a large margin of error. I generally give them only medicated water for the 5 days, it's generally best to dump out the water and do a new mix each day when giving any sort of medications.
