I have a blue male that I had thought had sunburning going on. He has not been exposed to sunlight at all this year and is not fed any corn. The color on him is a dark brown. Not red or yellow. Is it simply brassiness or is there something here that I need to worry about? If you can explain what's going on in Lamens terms I'd really appreciate it. The male is now 2.5 years old.

Please forgive the combs..winter in OK isn't the most conductive for perfect combs. Thanks for any info!

Haha.

To me, it just looks like the normal browning a blue gets. I've got a blue Ameraucana cock who's just like that now, in fact a couple feathers are hauntingly golden at the very tip, but I'm pretty darn sure it is not brassiness/gold leakage. And, this is Washington. . . Hardly any sun here even with him having a lot of outdoor space.

PS how big is that rubber food thing in the bottom pic? If it is the same size as the ones I use. . . . I am SOO getting Langshans!!!

Did yours show it as a young cockerel as well? If so I'm gonna breathe a huge sigh of relief. I poked my head into the coop and BAM! Brown hackles and saddle feathers! *Gasp!*

Let's see...it's the size that I use to feed my horse out of..lemme see if I can find it. It's also the kind that we use to drain oil from the cars...

I have a Blue Orpinton Roo, that got the brassiness on his shoulder but have noticed it going away now that he is older and has molted.

Okay that's it. I'm getting Langshans. rodriguez you had better have some blacks related to that half-blind guy of yours for me sometime.

All of my birds are related to him...poor chicks don't know if he's their father, grandfather or uncle twice removed!

My blue Roos all had it to a degree started around 8 or 9 months, but Zues is the only Orp. Roo I kept so don't really know if they all lost it, or he is just a odd case.
