Hello all
My 1 year old chicken slept in the nesting box last night and when I got home from school she was in the same nesting box. And she always usually lays when I'm at school. It's also really hot out so wouldent she want to be outside in the shade ? And when she lays she done really quick and she has been in there for about an hour . She also keeps making weird sort of screeching/screaming sound that the other chickens do a tiny bit when they are on there roost at night or when they lay an egg

She's broody.

There are multiple threads around here about ways to break a broody. Do some research and pick the way that will work best for your set up.

One of my hens was doing the same thing today. I checked twice and she doesn't have any eggs under her and even if she did, we don't have a rooster. Is she going broody or just eggbound? Is there a way to tell the difference? When I tried twice to shoo her off the nest she screeched at me like I was hurting her even though I didn't actually touch her at all.

she is prob broody or thinking of going broody oktx you don't need a rooster for a hen to go broody and if you remove the eggs from the nest she will still stay in the nest

I know you don't need a rooster for a hen to go broody. I mentioned that because of course her eggs would not be fertile anyway so even if she were sitting on them it would do her no good. We have locked her out of the coop all day. Hopefully this is going to fix it. She seemed to be in a much better mood this afternoon after being forced outside all day.

This is her 3rd day of broodiness I guess
I know I not going have anymore chicks (I want more though)
It is kind of weird hearing that noise that they make . Did they make that noise because they are irritated ?

Anyway I'm going to leave it for another day then try to make her stop

I've been forcing mine out of the coop during the day. She isn't any happier about it but she's fighting it less. Poor girl seems traumatized.

You wouldn't want her to try and hatch any?
