What is Gridiron???

My partner has been going off at the telly watching Gridiron, he cannot understand the rules.
Hes driving me crazy, what is the aim of this game?

To move the ball past your opponents to the end of the field, scoring a touchdown...

Yep as far as I know that is what we call football...6 points for a touchdown and 1 for the field goal, 2 for a safety, and 3 for field goals...thats Football and is also called Gridiron...

Actually the gridiron is the field they play on (because of the way it looks like with the parallel bars.)

My DH is a football FANATIC. I knew nothing about it when we first met now I know WAY TOO MUCH.

Each team has 4 tries to move the ball ten yards from where they started (line of scrimmage.) If they get 10 or more yards they get 4 tries more again. When they gain 10 yards it's called a first down. They do it on down the field until they score, or they don't and then they have to punt it to the other team.

There are tons of other rules though. Like when a play counts, and when it doesn't. I could be here all night with the details I think.

Football in Australia is Aussie rules or soccer.
Rugby is rugby . This causes alot of arguments in pubs here!!! Australian Rues football is THE aussie game!!!in my book!

It looks uncomfortable in all that padding, are they hot to wear, I bet the tackles hurt!!!many injuries? I believe that a few of our Aussie rules stars are over there at present playing American football!!!Ben Graham and Saverio Rocca! they only kick!

Yes it does hurt more if you dont have that hot padding on...unless you play Flag football..or powderpuff football which is when women play it...

In my area basketball rules and football comes in a distant second, but in OK and TX football rules and basketball comes in second. Just don't ask a OK Sooner fan about the Nov "06 game w/ Oregon. You will scathing remarks about the referees with good reason.

I have played both rugby and football. I found rugby to be more painful and physically stressful. Now, I wasnt playing professional football, which is like playing in the land of the giants. These professional run 250 pounds and more but are fast and agile, wouldnt want to take a hit from them in any amount of padding.
