If your rooster came with the hens, I'm thinking he's more an Easter egger. Since he doesn't lay eggs and you're not breeding for show birds, it's kind of a moot point. Pretty much the only way to know will be to breed him, raise the pullets and see what color eggs they lay. 

X2. The rooster is really light in color to be a Buckeye. Your hen is most likely Easter Egger.
