I was explaining my crude incubator to my lil sister, and she asked me what the humidity was for. Im not exactly sure how to explain it becuase im not so sure myself, anyone care to explain?

Hey: Eggs are alive and they breathe, under a bird the hen keeps it warm and moist.

The moisture also softens the shell so the chick can break out easily (it's a big deal with waterfowl.. their eggs are hard)

Too wet and the egg does not give out enough moisture, chicks can be to fluffy and will be weak.

too dry and they'll stick to the shell upon hatching

moisture too high or low and they'll die sooner or later

Kinda like the three bears and the oatmeal.... not too hot or cold, just right

Thanks! I had to change the lamp into a regular aquarium light, the lamp wasnt letting off enough heat
