What is in 'Scratch'?

It sounds fantastic!

We don't have anything labeled scratch here and was wondering if I could make it?

I dunno I planted some on purpose once because I was curious. It looked like grass.

Scratch is a mix of grains. What I have is red millet, black oil sunflower seeds, cracked corn, and some smaller grain seeds. The chickens love it; it's just like candy for them.

I don't know that there is "a" recipe for scratch. Equal parts cracked corn, wheat, oats, red millet, black oil sunflower seeds, and/or rye, depending on what you can get, would probably work. Or you can do what I do and buy a bag of wild bird seed for scratch.

Mostly corn and sunflower here, I has *around* 9% protien, and is too low for food, it's more of a snack.

Mine has wheat, corn, rolled oats and some other little seedy things.

I occassionally give them a handful of the horses sweet feed and then stand back for the chaos! They go crazy over it! Not often and not much
