What is it about muscovies?

I completely agree!! The caruncles give the scovies personality alone! I love my girl's chortling, it's one of my fave sounds, and my drakes tail wag and panting always means he's excited!

I feel kinda bad that my answer is going to be so practical... but hey, I live on a real farm with cows and pigs and chickens and rabbits and ... Muscovy!

They are total workhorses on the farm. They will find and clean up spilled feed on every inch of the 12 acres they roam. They break up cow pies and eat flies by the hundreds of thousands. They are prolific egg layers, great setters, wonderful mothers able to raise their own young and keep them safe. They are able to avoid predation. Extra drakes make the most fantastic fare and have become our special Christmas meal.

And last but certainly not least... they provide ENTERTAINMENT with a capital E! The are cute beyond belief but their antics are beyond cute. No one has ever visited our farm without going away with a duck story. They are always around us when we are out working the farm. I love them and hope to have more. I am very partial to the wild type, they have an elegant unspoiled beauty. (OK I guess I went from practical to flowery right there at the end!

I don't think they are ugly. I love my muscovies.
Like most ugly things in live you have to learn to love them and you get used to them having them around. After a while you don't see the red spots anymore , you will see a nice sweet quit bird that is funny and have a great personality.
But the thing with Muscovy is that if you don't eat them they will eat you out of your money. Big eaters.
It is a good thing they taste so good. and they are easy to breed. Great mothers and you just wait and see them grow fast.
From all the birds I have I think I love my muscovy the best. I have learn to love them and would not want to go back without having them.
Go muscovy's. Everyone go and get one and enjoy!
If anyone is looking for some. I'm in NC and have some

The thing that scares me the most about muscovies are the drake's massive talons of death.

I think that is one of the only reasons I don't have them. They look alittle weird, but in a cool way. Oh, and the flying. That was also a minus when I was choosing duck breeds.

I would get muscovies if noise became an issue. Mallard derived girls can be quite noisy.
