What is it? God only knows!! UPDATE on PG 10

The dog sounds like a great idea but I think you probably have a fox getting your birds. Coyotes travel in packs and make a lot of racket where a fox hunts alone usually. We just had to kill to foxes that were killing my free range birds. They were getting my chickens early in the morning and they were not leaving a feather or anything. It took us awhile to finally figure out what was getting my birds and I lost a good many.

Good luck with with your problem.

thanks....i put my dead roo in the trap....im thinking since hes dead it wont work? he also took up a good bit of room in there so im hoping whatever is getting them still fits in the trap lol i decided at the last minute not to use eggs as they have not yet started eating my eggs (that i know of) and i dont want them to learn to like the taste.

We have a pair of Great Pyrs watching over our flock, and they're one of the best investments we ever made. Here in Alabama, you can get good dogs from a working line for less than $100 each (ours were $50).

Here's our boy, George, overseeing things while the chickens enjoy some scratch:

We haven't lost a chicken to predation (hawks were our problem) since we got the pups. They chase off the hawks, feral cats, raccoons, possums, and coyotes. They face down any strangers who come back to the chicken yard, and they sleep right outside the entrance to the coop. They'll even chase the chickens back to the coop when a hawk is coming.

And they do all that naturally, with no training from us.

Krypto, be careful and heed everyone's advice: Find a GOOD and reliable breeder and make sure you have references. Do your homework.
And caution: There is a breeder in Berkeley Springs you want to avoid.

I had a Pyr years a go from her and due to poor breeding (I had NOT done the reseach

) Baloo had problems and we ended having to put him down. It was heartbreaking, he was such a lovable giant goof.
Found out later this breeder had poor standards and was more into the money than the quality and well-being of the dogs.
