I am hoping someone can tell what this might be.... we have 6 pullets (about 11 weeks) and 2 hens in the coop right now. Today when I cleaned out the coop I found a red object--it looked like a large cherry tomato, but I have not fed them any for quite awhile. It is very squishy to the top and kind of veiny. I poked it with a pin and yellow stuff came out that looked exactly like egg yolk. It really seems to have come from a chicken. I can't find any information on what this might be. All the chickens seem healthy and happy, nothing weird going on with behavior or physical problems.... Can anyone offer ideas....?

its probably a "missing shell" which happens when a hens shell forming mechanism malfunctions and she's rushed through her egg laying process so the shell doesn't have time to finish forming (which may be caused by stress or fright) i have gotten eggs like that before (without the red) but i have know idea what the red could mean. it can also mean a nutritional deficiency. maybe ask a vet or something about what the red could mean. but as long as everyone is acting normal then i don't think you have anything to worry about.

It is very unlikely to have come from any of the younger pullets, but could be something of a strange egg from one of your hens, which isn't usually a problem unless it happens regularly which could indicate that there is something wrong with your hens reproductive system, I would love to see a picture

Its likely from your hens and it happens sometime . its like a shell less egg. There must had been a miss in the process of making the egg in the reproductive system.it should be alright unless it happens a lot. Sometimes these misses happen. Usually its not a problem unless it continues to happen. Hope this helps and best wishes.
