what is jiggers/giggers?? The vet said my chook has it.

How is your hen doing? Any better yet? I've never heard of jiggers either.

I guess I must be a tourist then lol. I hike in the woods in FL, fish in places you have to walk and climb through the brush etc. I am not at all squeamish about bugs or snakes though except maybe those 3 inch flying roaches ...totally hate those but I have a great remedy for them...sick the key west hens on them! They act like roaches are the finest cuisine on earth and rip them to shreds in no time flat. Gotta love those KW hens!!!

Chiggers are small insects that live in Florida. if they get on you they move onto your skin and find a tight place like under a sock. they then burrow under the skin leaving only a small breathing tube sticking out. They are killed by painting the wound with nail polish which suffocates them.

Actually, your second pic there is of a red velvet mite, which is harmless. Chiggers look similar, but only have six walking legs and are MUCH tinier than velvet mites.

Stomach bug?? Chickens don't have digestive upsets like humans do. If they have diarrhea, there is an underlying cause that is not digestive. Honestly, my opinion is that he's full of chicken poop, sorry. He has no idea what's wrong with her. That sounds like something he just made up.
Its easy to find a vet that deals with cats and dogs, but Farm Vets are disappearing. Its my bet that this vet is a standard vet using general veterinary bird knowledge. He is probably treating it as if it were a parrot, which to be fair, isn't that unreasonable. On the plus side, I bet he is studying up on chickens now. OP should send him a nice letter thanking him for curing his chickens and letting him know you will be a return customer. If he knows you will be a patent he will study up on Chickens and will be much better in future.

You can always tell the difference between a Florida Native and a tourist. Anyone living in Florida will treat grass as if it was molten lava. They never cross the lawn to get to the car, they will use the sidewalk, even though its twice the distance. Tourists can be seen sitting it the lush grass casually chatting together. Enjoying the sun and the beautiful day. Poor unsuspecting fools.

Florida is infested with South American Fire ants. Once bitten by a fire ant, you will never ever forget it. Especially since unlike other ants that attack individually, The entire colony comes after you. Between the Fire ants, the Chiggers, and the three inch (Flying) roaches, Floridians have learned to avoid the grass.
