Hi, I am going to hatch eggs this fall for the first time. I keep seeing the word lockdown in reference to hens sitting on eggs. What is that?

Lockdown is for those who use an incubator for hatching ~ locking down as an example hatching chickens, day 18 is when you lock it down, raise the humidity, and don't open the bator at anytime (unless a true emergency) while they hatch. Which can be anytime between day 19 ( some are early) and day 24 to day 25 on the average and depending on whether they start hatching on day 21 or day 22, etc.

Lockdown is a newly coined term here on BYC. I always use "IBW" myself, which can mean Intense Bator Watch or Intense Broody Watch, LOL.

I definately like "IBW" getter.
