I have a cute little 2 day old ameraucana chick that hatched with a little growth on her face. have you ever seen this before? what is it? All the other chicks keep pecking at it. Would it be ok to remove it and when would be the best time to do so.

Gosh, I've never seen anything like that. It looks like a wart or skin growth. I wouldn't try to remove it unless it becomes such a problem it's either that or put her down. Our hens groom each other by pecking things off the beaks and heads of others. They are especially attentive to the EE hen who always has something around her face and beard. Since your chick is an EE perhaps her beard will cover it when she is adult. Hopefully she won't suffer from it before that time. I'm sorry I can't help you but keep asking. You can't have the only chick with kind of skin growth.

She is actually an Ameraucana but yeah I might just remove it. Thanks for the input!

Is the bump on her nostril? Wondering if it is some kind of inflammation around a nostril. I'm no expert, though. Hope the cutie will be okay in the long run.

chickensducks&agoose :

I am pretty sure EE (Easter Egger) and Ameraucana are the same thing... True Auracanas have no tails. pretty sure...

EEs and Ameraucana's not the same thing. Here is a helpful link to distinguish the three.

As for the bump..I have no clue. Maybe it is just a harmless wart like thing.
