I have researched and researched and I cannot seem to find an exact answer to what is on my rooster’s comb. Is it mites? Or bird pox? There is a chance that he got some frostbite during the winter. Does that ever go away, if so? A few of my hens have some small black spots on their combs, but this rooster has it the worst. He is my dominate rooster, so I can’t imagine that it could be chicken pecking. All of my hens seem healthy and are laying well. Two or three are missing the back half of their combs and the feathers right around it though and some feathers on their backs, but I assumed this was due to two young roosters that we had for awhile. Those hens seemed to be their favorites. We gave one young rooster away and it doesn’t seem to be as much of a problem now. Just threw that in there in case it could all be related!
