I should probably already know this but I don't, what is pipping and zipping? Also, it is recomended not to move eggs in an incubator the last 3 days until hatch. Now, I have a hen sitting on eggs, they were due yesterday, but alas, no chickies. I'm sure she's moved them around these last couple days, is that bad???????????????????????

Pip = the chick pokes a hole through the shell. It can take a while for the next stage. My first egg pipped and it wasn't until the next day when it zipped and hatched

Zip = the chick pokes a line around the egg so it can push out and hatch. It'll chip away at the shell.

Good luck and I think momma knows best but I've never had a broody hatch eggs. Wait a couple of days and see. I think sometimes eggs are just late?

Good luck!!!!

Pipping is when the chick first breaks through the shell. Zipping is when the chick cracks the shell all around to get out. Not to worry when the hen is on the nest. She'll take care of her own eggs and chicks. She knows more about hatching than you or I do.

Thank you, now I know what that means.

Do you mean the broody didn't hatch out the eggs or you've never had them try, as in, you've always used an incubator?

I've never had a chicken old enough to go broody!

I hatched my first clutch of eggs the end of June in an incubator. They are 5 weeks old now. Hopefully they will go broody in the spring so I can have me some more cuties.

I don't know how old they have to be to go broody.

Any progress on your eggs?

They can go broody as soon as they start laying, mine is just about a year old now because silkies don't lay until they're about 9 months old. I'm still hoping I'll have some cuties around but my hope is decreasing everyday
